Evergreen Sunset

'Evergreen Sunset' is an original fine art scratchboard miniature drawing in black, white and full color. The scratchboard size is 3 1/4 in x 4 1/4 in. This drawing is another artwork using the snowcovered evergreen theme. I created it to use for my 2004 holiday card. This tiny miniature artwork was done with an exacto blade on black scratchboard. Broad strokes of the blade removed the black ink to create the snow and to allow large areas of color. For the color, I used a small brush to apply opaque watercolor, allowing the brush strokes to remain visible to create drama in the sky against the black. Watercolor was also used to create some of the lighter shadowing. Please note that the squiggly line effect is caused by digitizing the image for the internet. The lines on the actual painting are smooth. And keep in mind that color shows up differently on individual monitors. The color is much richer in the original.
